Hundreds of models responded to a casting for models on Sunday May 14, for the forthcoming Kigali Fashion Week. Only 50, including some Ugandans, made the final cut at a rigorous exercise overseen by the fashion week’s CEO John Bunyeshuri and his team at One Love Mulindi Japan in Kigali.
The successful models will be gracing the runway come May 27 at the Kigali Serena hotel. Gates will open at 6:30pm, and the show kicks off at 7:30pm. Two other events – a fashion workshop and car fashion show – are scheduled for the two days before the grand show.
Home-based designers to showcase their latest collections will include Patrick Muhire (Ikanda), Moses Turahirwa (Moshions), Olivier Itangishaka (Tanga designs), Ramadhan Scorpio (Made in Kigali), Cedric Amizero (Amizero Designs), Cynthia Rupari (Rupari Designs) and Delphine Uwamahoro (Delphine fashion house).
There will also be performances by Weya Viayotora and Mike Kayihura, among others. International designers are expected come from the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Japan, India, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo and Switzerland, although the final list and names are not yet out. The official list is still being kept under wraps. Previously, Jamil Walji (Kenya), Malvika (India) and A.N Buermans, (Belgium), among others have showcased as part of the international designers’ lineup.
