Inside Hair By Zziwa opening party

0

Friday night was black and gold glamour as Hair By Zziwa was officially opened. The hair studio is located on Cooper road, Kisementi, on the Krishna Mart building. This is by far the most publicized hair studio opening ever. There is no doubt the man behind it; Kennedy Zziwa is targeting clients that enjoy the limelight. It was an invite-only event graced by a number of media personalities, bloggers, and many faces from the modeling industry, stylists and notable among the fashion designers; Martha Jabo and Gloria Wavamunno.

 Who is Zziwa?

Zziwa, 29, believes he first tasted stardom when he was just in P6 at Buganda Road primary school. Then, he took part in a play and The Ebonies director, Sam Bagenda, was in the audience and thereafter gave him a chance to act with the group.

That made him a darling at school, but his parents were not that happy with the move. He went to Lubiri Secondary School where he did his O and A-levels. He then joined Makerere University, from where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering.

“I wasn’t a fan of being employed; so, I used my savings from campus to start up a salon in Gayaza,” he says. This was after seeing that his hairdressing skills were paying dividends at campus.

From Gayaza, he sold his two cows that his grandparents had given him, and flew to China. There, he linked up with friends and got a job in a salon styling women’s hair. After six years there, he decided to come back home and continue with his trade.

Inside the salon

The unisex salon has shinny mirrors and on one side a swanky sofa set, from the top of which hangs hair dryers. The entrance has a cashier’s desk that sits on a large aquarium with exotic fish, which gives one something to marvel while waiting. In the top right hand corner is a plasma screen that was showing music videos on the opening night. As of now, you will pay Shs 15,000 for a men’s haircut while lady’s pricing varies with design and it ranges from Shs 15,000 to Shs 3m.

The party

Zziwa decided to have models posing as statues amongst the crowd which, I must say, was very unique and artistic. The male models like Ronnie Volts, Adam Gashe, Mushema Housen, Balzac JB and Mr. Ideal Uganda 2015/16, Mario Alozius among others showed off their ripped bodies giving ladies (and guys) some serious eye-candy.

It was an open bar with drinks of all kinds flowing till late. People were really happy and there was a lot of drinking and dancing.  Roger Mugisha and Deedan hosted the event. Gloria Wavamunno joined Zziwa and his partner to cut the ribbon while Desire Luzinda performed Ekitone.

The partying went on till late.
