After seven years of hosting NBS TV’s fashion show-Omusono and showcasing in different parts of Africa, Josephine Nakafeero is set to launch her fashion house in Uganda. Jose House of Creations will be launched on Thursday 2nd June at an event dubbed Fashion Forward to be held at Cayenne Lounge in Bukoto. Her passion for fashion is the one that led her to television after realizing a void for such a TV show then.
She has been designing for close to a decade and has showcased in Ghana and Nigeria. In 2014 she was recognized with the award for Best Fashion Advocator Award at the annual Mercedes Benz Africa Fashion Festival awards held in Accra, Ghana. She is also the brain behind the annual Miss Kampala Royale Contest beauty pageant launched last year. Grace Gashumba is the reigning queen. The contest is also a platform for the fashion and modeling industry to showcase its artistry. It also aimed at drawing strategies to generate employment for the youths especially the girl-child. The theme of the launch collection is Fashion Forward and is influenced by the West African fashion world. “West Africa inspires a lot of fashion in Africa and the world. My interactions with fashion in Nigeria and Ghana has in a way inspired my creations,” she says. She is also borrowing a leaf from how the designers there take their calling really serious which has elevated them. Something she plans to replicate here. Although she designs for both genders, her debut showcase will focus on only the ladies. For fashion lovers, this is the place to be on Thursday as we usher in the Matyrs’ Day public holiday and a long weekend. Expect performance by Rena Nalumansi. Tickets cost Shs 30,000 and Shs 50,000 VIP. Action starts at 8pm.
