PAFA 2017 red carpet steals show from main event

A couple of days after the first edition of the Pearl of Africa Fashion Awards (PAFA 2017), more pictures are still streaming in and being part of talking points online. The event took place at Sky Beach, Freedom City on Entebbe Road. The closed group – Fresh Peaches that collects fashion lovers and critics has been at its busiest since the year begun. The conversations have nothing to do with what happened on the runway or who won what of the 72 categories. Granted, the red carpet may be a major part of an event like this but never has an award’s show been dominated by what happened on the red carpet. Credit can be given to the organizers who did a lot of homework to make sure there was no much controversy surrounding the winners’ list. Another school of thought may argue that with 72 awards being given out, surely there was enough to go around and leave would be disgruntled parties happy. According to Hassan Ssentongo, the night’s winner for Fashion Blogger of the year, the categories were a tad too many giving the guests time to enjoy their moments on the red carpet that was strewn with many photographers. It was divided into three points; with different red carpet hosts include Kabs Haloha and Zahara Totto. Emolsa DNA went all out with the production and he managed to create mood lighting for every collection. The crowning moment was when the male models walked into the swimming pool wearing Abbas Kaijuka’s collection. For pulling all stops at the first edition, the organisers may have set the bar quite high and many are looking for to the second edition next year.
