African Fashion International (AFI) invited Uganda’s Arapapa by Santa Anzo last month to showcase at a fashion extravaganza that brought an end to this year’s Africa Month celebrations organized by the South African Department of Arts and Culture (DAC). The event took place in Johannesburg, South Africa. She joined other renowned African designers like Taibo Bacar (Mozambique), Sindiso Khumalo (South Africa), Alphadi (Niger), Sophie Zinga (Senegal), Tina Lobondi (DRC), Kiko Romeo (Kenya) and David Tlale (South Africa). The month long festival also had various arts and cultural disciplines including music concert, literature, film, cuisines and panel discussions. Part of the agenda was how to increase economic opportunities for artists.
Below are some photos from the showcase held at the Museum of African Design in Maboneng, Johannesburg- South Africa. Santa Anzo went all out with the vibrant yellow fabric to reflect the continent’s sunshine. Add that to the green in the multicolored pattern and you have a fine blend. To say that the cuts and silhouettes are beautiful and tantalizing is an understatement.
