Yesterday thousands thronged Ntenjeru, Kayunga district to bid farewell to fallen businessman, philanthropist and party starter Ivan Semwanga. Ivan breathed his last on Thursday at Steve Biko Academic hospital in Pretoria, South Africa after being hospitalized for a couple days. It was reported that he had suffered a stroke. The news spread like wild fire after his ex-wife and mother of his three sons made the announcement on her social media platforms. Zari is now with Tanziania’s chart-topping singer/songwriter Diamond Platinumz. The have two children together.
A lot has been said about the socialite who passed away a few months shy of his 40th birthday. What a birthday bash his 40th would have been! Millions of people have spoken of his kindness and how he was ever willing to lend a helping hand wherever he went. To the Ugandan community in South Africa, he was a darling and a problem solver who will be irreplaceable.
Who can forget the debut White Party when he was still with Zari? Then the Rich Gang parties alongside his ride or die buddies Cheune and King Lawrence started where he made it rain on revelers with hard paper and all-night open bars. He will be remembered for chopping money, living large, posh cars, popping champagne and his love for bling bling. He was not the flashiest of dressers but he had his signature look. He loved gold, vibrant coloured shirts, t-shirts and sneakers. He was a certified sneakerhead. Going through online photos its evident he loved Versace, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and sports brands like Adidas. Whether it was a night out with the boys or an appearance at Blankets and Wine, Ivan’s gold chains always stood out. He appeared in suits for a couple of events but it was evident he loved to dress casually in designer outfits. He complimented his outfits with expensive wrist watches with one of his favorites being Hublot.
Images from the burial showed his mates popping champagne and throwing money in the grave. Hopefully someone remembered to make sure he was suited up and wearing a number of gold necklaces and rings before he was laid to rest. Your candle burnt out long before your swagg ever will, Don Ivan.
