Urban meets traditional at Sleek fashion show

The first edition of The Sleek Fashion Show took place at Cayenne Bukoto last week. The event was organize by Jose House of Creations and is meant to become a regular event on the fashion calendar.

On the inaugural line up was Shoma Fashion House, Bena Fahion House, Evenah Fashion House, Meddie Man and Leila’s Accessories showcasing women and gents clothes plus accessories.

In attendance were many fashion lovers including Prince Fredrick Wasajja and Captain Mike Mukula, who bought a Shs 1m piece for his wife Gladys.

All the designers were working with Kitenge fabric for most of their designs but added an edgy feel to the outfits in cutting and finishing.

Leila Nankya, the only designer who showcased jewelry had a diverse collection combining contemporary and traditional pieces.

This was inspired by the need to match both local and modern standards since handmade traditional jewelry is trending and can be worn in office, at the club or a traditional wedding.

“The same people who are here are the same people who will attend a Kwanjula next weekend so they need to know the current trends and where to get the items,” she said.

She added that Ugandans need to add an African touch to their wardrobe and not attempt to look American/European from head to toe everyday because that will not develop our industry.
